THE PENGUIN PROJECT FOUNDATION
SONY DSCThe Penguin Project ® Foundation was organized to create opportunities for children with disabilities to participate in the performing arts and to demonstrate that their participation has significant therapeutic value by enhancing socialization, communication, and self-esteem. The Foundation strives to demonstrate that individuals with disabilities can participate fully in community activities with the same enthusiasm, dedication, and success as others if given opportunity and support.

The Foundation is dedicated to assisting other communities in creating their own theatre programs for children with disabilities, using the Penguin Project ® in Peoria as a model for replication. Each year, the Foundation identifies new sites for replication through contacts with theater and health care organizations. The Foundation then sends a team of “experts” to each site that has been selected to help them get their program started. These teams then make multiple visits to each site to help them establish an infrastructure that will allow the local programs to continue on their own for years to come. As the replication process spreads, we hope to realize our dream of creating a network of Penguin Projects that will bring the magic of this experience to communities from coast to coast.
